本繁多。但纵观国内外伊索寓言选
本,多经一再改编,有些已面目全非,
演变为幼儿故事。本书则力图保留
伊索寓言未经雕琢的质朴风格,
无论语言还是插图,均追求原汁
原味。

    狐狸翻越篱笆的时候失足摔了下来,幸好抓住一株刺藤,才
保全了性命。但狐狸的脚底被扎得鲜血淋淋,他埋怨刺藤说,自
己本来是向她求救的,不想却被她害得更惨。刺藤打断了狐狸的
话,对他说道:“凡是我碰到的东西,我都会抓住不放,可现在
是你抓着我不肯放手,反来怪我,真是岂有此理!”
    在自私者眼中,人人都自私。
    LXIV The Fox and the Bramble
     A Fox was mounting a hedge when he lost his footing and
caught hold of a Bramble to save himself. Having pricked and
grievously  tom the soles ~ of his feet, he accused the Bramble
because, when he had fled to her for assistance~, she had used him
worse than the hedge ~ itsellf The Bramble ~, interrupting him,
said,  "But you really must have been out of your senses to fasten
yourself on me, who am myself always accustomed to fasten upon~
others."
      To the selfish all axe selfish.
    六五狐狸和山羊
    狐狸失足落人一口深井,想尽了办法也逃不出来。过了一会
儿,有只山羊路过这里,问狐狸在井底干什么。  “难道你还没有
听说吗?”狐狸说道,  “旱灾就要来了,我跳到井里是为了让自己
有水喝。你为什么不下来呢?”山羊信以为真,也跳到井里。狐狸
立刻跳到山羊背上,踩着长长的羊角,跃出了井口,回过头来对
山羊说:  “再见了,朋友,下次一定要记住,陷入困境的人的建
议万万信不得的。”
        LXV The Fox and the Goat
     By an unlucky chance a Fox fell into a deep well from which
he could not get out~. A Goat passed by shortly afterwards, and
asked the Fox what he was doing down there.  "Oh, have you not
heard?" said the Fox;  "there is going to be a great drought~, so I
jumped down here in order to be sure to have water by me. Why
don' t you come down too?" The Goat thought well of this advice,
and jumped down into the well. But the Fox immediately jumped on
her back, and by putting his foot on her long horns managed to
jump up to the edge of the well. "Good-bye, friend," said the Fox,
"remember next time,  Never trust the advice of a man in
diffi~ldes."
     六六狐狸和乌鸦
    乌鸦嘴里叼着一块奶酪,飞到树枝上。狐狸见了,心想:
“我是一只狐狸,那奶酪应该是我的。”他走到树下,仰起头对乌
鸦说:  “你好啊,乌鸦小姐。你今天的气色真好,你的羽毛多么
光彩照人,眼睛多么明亮!我敢肯定,你的歌声和外表一样美,
其他的鸟都比不上你。请为我唱一首歌吧,我愿奉你为鸟中之
王。”
    乌鸦听了,昂起头呱呱大叫,可她刚一张口,嘴里的奶酪就
掉了下来,狐狸赶紧冲上来,一口咬住奶酪,对乌鸦说:  “这就
对了,我要的就是这个。谢谢你的奶酪,作为回报,我送你一句
忠告——千万别相信马屁精的话。”
