叶先生生日的时候谈到自己的一生时说：以无生的觉悟做有生的事业，以悲观的心情过乐观的生活。在近一个世纪的岁月中，虽然历经种种苦难，但先生对理想的追求，对未来生活的想往，对中国古典诗歌和传统文化的至爱，始终如一，从未有半点改变。诵读先生的诗作，我们不仅领略到作品的柔婉与至情至性，而且深切感受到先生内心的坚定、光明与大爱。 本书由译者陶永强先生选篇，选取了叶嘉莹先生从少年时期到耄耋之年的诗词曲作品六十余首，译成英文，并由书法家谢琰先生以行书抄录诗作，为本书增色。 随书附赠“三鼠同心”藏书票，作为同为鼠年出生的作者、译者和书者的友谊见证。
